the call for papers for this 1st conference on architecture and gender states that “the practice of architecture is still under a paternalistic influence globally considering women architects as hierarchically inferior avoiding them to held senior positions. the low number of women architects in decision-making positions and running offices is the evidence of an unequal professional situation that has not been addressed properly.” in this paper we want to explore if, and under what conditions, the changing nature of the practice of architecture from a system of exclusion in the form of a professional, institutionally defined and strictly contained social stratum, towards a network practice could have a positive influence on raising the equality of women in the profession.
